The number of international students at American universities and colleges last year increased 1.5 percent to 1,094,792.
The number of international students at American universities and colleges last year increased 1.5 percent to 1,094,792, according to the Institute of International Education. On Long Island, the total at 13 schools was 11,754 for the 2017-18 school year, down slightly from the 2016-17 school year. The report did not include data for Molloy College, which provided it to Newsday independently.
The table below presents data for 1,555 schools nationwide that had 10 or more international students, with the Long Island schools at the top, then groups of schools in New York City and New York State, followed by the rest of the nation, ranked by the number of international students. Newsday included data on 2016-2017 undergraduate enrollment to help you gauge the relative size of each school, but the international enrollment figures include all students at each institution; total enrollment figures were unavailable.
